• Selection of Relevant Product Code: Start by finding the Indian Standard that applies to your product. This standard will have a specific product code that categorizes your product based on its characteristics and use.
• Identify Testing Facilities and Samples: Make a list of all the machinery in your factory, whether you own it or have it outsourced. Identify the testing equipment needed as per the Indian Standard, and check if you need to use any outside testing facilities. Determine the number of product samples required for testing based on the product’s nature and the scope of the certification.
• File the Online Application: Submit an online application with all the necessary documents, including the product code and details of your testing facilities. Make sure your product meets the criteria outlined in the Indian Standard. Test your products according to the standard, and include a test report with your application.
• Examination of Application: After you submit your application, BIS officials will review it and work with you to schedule a factory inspection. This step ensures that everything is ready for the certification process to move forward smoothly.

• Final Approval: Sealed samples are tested at BIS-approved laboratories, and if everything meets the required standards, the certificate is granted within 35 to 40 days of application.

Reasons For Rejection Of The ISI Application

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) may reject an ISI mark registration application for various reasons, including:

• Failure of the manufacturer to cooperate with the visiting BIS official during the factory inspection.
• Outstanding financial dues owed by the firm to BIS.
• Product samples failing to meet the required standards during testing.
• Non-compliance during the second factory visit, where the sample product fails to conform to standards.
