BIS Registration For Microwave Ovens
A microwave oven, known for its speed and ease of use, efficiently reheats and cooks various dishes. It operates using electromagnetic waves to heat food quickly. Developed in 1945, it has become a common household appliance worldwide. To ensure consumer safety, it offers features like convection cooking, grilling, and safety standards, such as those outlined in IS 302 (part 2): Section 25:2014. Manufacturers and users alike must meet these standards for safe operation.
What Is BIS CRS Certification?
In 2012, the CRS (Compulsory Registration Scheme) was first introduced by the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology, jointly with the Bureau of Indian Standards. The scheme covered 79 electronics & It products. Under this Scheme manufacturers must obtain BIS CRS Registration for their products before introducing them to the Indian Market. The product is tested for safety according to the applicable Indian standards, Foreign manufacturers need to nominate a local representative in India who will be responsible for placing the product in the Indian market.
Basic Requirement For Obtaining BIS CRS Registration For Microwave Oven
Here are the 4 pillars on which the BIS Certification for Microwave Ovens depends. Without these, no applicant can apply for BIS Certification. To get BIS license, the applicant must fulfill the following requirements:
- Manufacture: The first essential thing is that the BIS License is granted to the manufacturer only, not to importers or sellers. The importer may act as the AIR of foreign manufacturers and can apply to BIS. The final license is only granted to the manufacturer.
- Manufacturing Address: The Proper manufacturing address shall be mentioned in the documents. In case the manufacturer has more than one factory location for one product, then a separate BIS License is required for each location.
- Product: Each product requires its license, but if the same products cover multiple models, then one License/ registration number will cover all the models of the same product category. Either we can say that one product with different models requires a single BIS License.
- Brand/Trademark: Each brand or Trademark is a single BIS License.
Why Is BIS Registration For Microwave Ovens Important?
On July 3, 2013, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) mandated Microwave ovens to be registered under IS 302 (part 2) section 25:2014 of the BIS compulsory registration scheme.
The government of India and the BIS have made registration mandatory for both domestic and foreign firms to protect public health.
Who Can Apply For BIS Certification For Microwave Ovens?
The following entities can apply for BIS registration for microwave ovens:
- Manufactures Only: Indian and foreign manufacturers can apply for BIS certification. Traders, importers, or distributors cannot apply, only the actual manufacturer can obtain the BIS certificate for microwave ovens.
- Foreign Manufacturers: If the manufacturer is located outside India, they must appoint an Authorized India Representative (AIR) to handle the BIS application and compliance process. The AIR should be an Indian entity responsible for ensuring product compliance.
- Entities with a Registered Manufacturing Facility: The applicant must own or operate a manufacturing facility capable of producing microwave ovens in compliance with Indian Standards IS 302 (part 2 /Section 25). A factory inspection and product testing at a BIS-recognized laboratory are required.
Benefits Of Obtaining BIS Certificate For Microwave Oven
The BIS certification for microwave ovens ensures that the product meets safety, quality, and performance standards as per Indian regulations. Here are the key benefits:
- It gives authenticity to BIS-certified products as they deliver high-quality performance & reliability.
